Overview

Executive assistants possess a broad skill and provide direct support to executive leadership. This course will prepare you for two important certifications in your career as an executive assistant: Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Expert.

You will learn the intricacies of organizational communication, office and records management, and human resources fundamentals, among other topics. You will then learn to how to use Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Earning your Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Expert certification demonstrates your proficiency in the Office suite.

On course completion and eligibility, you will receive vouchers to the CAP exam and the MOS certification exams for: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. The vouchers cover the fee to sit for the certifying exam upon eligibility. Proctor fees may apply, which are not included.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites:

You should have basic keyboarding and computer skills, be comfortable navigating the Internet and using email, and have an understanding of a word-processing program (such as Word). This course is intended for anyone interested in developing their management skills. You should also be comfortable using a personal computer and be familiar with Windows software.

Certification Requirements:

Certified Administrative Professional (CAP)

You must have previous experience as an administrative assistant to be eligible to sit for the Certified Administrative Professional certification exam.

Candidates must meet specific education and administrative office support professional experience, which are:

No College Degree - 4 years of relevant work experience is required
Associates Degree - 3 years of relevant work experience is required
Bachelor's Degree - 2 years of relevant work experience is required

All relevant work experience must have been earned within the last ten years.

Relevant work experience qualifies as office and administrative professionals who engage in some, if not all, of the following:

Communicate within the organization (both verbal and written)
Conduct business writing, including proofreading and editing
Maintain office functions and record keeping
Plan meetings, events, and arrange travel
Manage projects
Engage in or support human relations activities, such as hiring and compliance issues
Maintain budgets and basic accounting functions
Manage time and other resources for themselves and others
Utilize technology, including virtual and mobile, with strong computer and internet research skills
Coordinate communications between internal staff and/or external clients

To earn a Microsoft Office Specialist: Expert certification, you must complete the following requirements:

Earn a Microsoft Office Specialist Associate certification by passing three of the following Associate exams:

For students using Microsoft Office 2019/2021:
- MO-100: Microsoft Word
- MO-200: Microsoft Excel
- MO-300: Microsoft PowerPoint
- MO-400: Microsoft Outlook
For students using Microsoft Office 365:
- MO-110: Microsoft Word
- MO-210: Microsoft Excel
- MO-310: Microsoft PowerPoint
- MO-400: Microsoft Outlook

And pass any two of the following three Expert exams:

Katherine Squires Pang

Katherine Squires Pang, J.D., LL.M., M.Ed has practiced law with since 1983. She has served as an adjunct faculty member in the Graduate School of Management at the University of Texas, Dallas, and has been an adjunct faculty member of many universities, including New York University and the University of California, Irvine. She received her B.A. in 1980 from Clark University, her J.D. from the University of Dayton Law School in 1982, her LL.M in Taxation from Georgetown University Law School in 1983, and her M.Ed from the University of Texas in 2001.

Jerry L. Partridge

Jerry L. Partridge is a Certified Project Management Professional with experience as a project and program manager for a major retail organization. He is a certified instructor for IBM project management courses and hosts university seminars for project managers seeking certification. He has worked extensively with the Project Management Institute, previously leading a team that developed a practice standard for Earned Value Management Systems and volunteering as a subject matter expert for an update to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).
